Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I ...
HOW DO I RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES?
You may now opt to receive text messages for hold, almost due, and overdue notices. To select text messages, first login to your library account.
Click on the "Contact Information and Preference" link. Add your mobile phone number in the labeled box and select your mobile phone carrier from the drop down list. In the Preferences section below, select TXT Messaging from the "My preference for receiving library notices" option. Click the "Submit Change Request" button. You will receive a confirmation message on the screen listing your changes.
Charges from your carrier may apply to text messages.
If you would like to receive a text message in addition to your previous form of notification (email or telephone,) add your mobile number and carrier, but do not change your preference option. You will then receive notices by text message and the selected preference.
HOW DO I CREATE A USERNAME?
You may now create a username for logging into your account rather than having to use your barcode each time.
To get started, click the Patron Account tab. Under the barcode entry area, click "Create Username." You must then login to your account with your barcode and password, and click "Next Step."
In the "Change Logon" box, select "Change Username." Type in your new username in the "New Username" and "Verify Username" boxes. Click the "Save" button.
Once you have a username, you may login using that or your barcode at any time.
HOW DO I USE YOUR MOBILE PAC?
Just point your browser to www.blackgold.org/mobile. You will be able to use a special version of the PAC just for mobile phones.
WHAT IS MAP IT?
Once you’ve located an item you would like to check out, click the MAP IT button. You will see a map of the entire Black Gold region with a balloon indicating each library that owns that item. A yellow balloon indicates the number of copies available now, while a blue balloon shows that none are available. Click on the yellow balloon to see the libraries hours for that day.
Don’t want to write down a call number? Text it to yourself! Once you click "Where is it?" and find the library with your items, you’ll see a
icon. Click that and type in your mobile phone number. You’ll receive a text message with the call number.
HOW DO I PAY FEES ONLINE?
To pay fees using a credit card, log into your account, then click the "Fines and Fees" tab. You will see a list of any fees you may have, along with information about why the fee was incurred and the items title, if applicable. You may select the specific fees you want to pay by clicking next to the item, then clicking the "Pay Fines Now" link in the middle of the page.
The total fees you are paying will display at the top of the next screen. Fill in the necessary fields, and select "Next." You will receive a Payment Verification screen. Click "Submit" to finalize your payment. You will then see a receipt screen which you should print out and keep for your records. You will also receive an email notice regarding the transaction.
You may pay fees with a Visa, MasterCard or Discover card. Black Gold does not charge any transaction fees for online payments.
HOW DO I RECEIVE EMAIL NOTICES?
Hold and overdue notices from the library can be received via email. They're sent every day, the fastest way of being notified of when your item is ready for pickup. Titles are listed on the notice. There is a web link on hold pickup notices to check the current status of your record.
Please contact your local library with your email address.
After you have signed up for email notifications:
- Make sure that blackgold.org is listed in your addressbook or is on your "safe" list. This enables our notices to safely pass through the filtering systems. You should be able to do this through your email provider (AOL, Earthlink, Netzero, Yahoo, Hotmail). You must be logged into your account to add blackgold.org. Library staff cannot do this for you.
- Be sure to notify the library if your email address changes!
